Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how SIM DAD LLC (“SIM DAD,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects information in connection with the company website at simdadllc.com, the company’s mailing list, customer support correspondence, and the substantiation papers and other research artifacts the company publishes. SIM DAD LLC operates a portfolio of local-first software products (Ibis, Lector, TASS, Orator, and others). Each product has its own privacy policy at its product website that describes product-specific data handling. This document is the umbrella policy that applies to SIM DAD LLC at the company level and is the parent of those product policies.
1. Scope
This policy covers:
- Visits to the SIM DAD LLC website at simdadllc.com
- Subscriptions to the SIM DAD mailing list (waitlists, launch announcements, research updates)
- Email correspondence with the company at hello@simdadllc.com or any other simdadllc.com address
- Substantiation papers, methods notes, and research artifacts published under the SIM DAD LLC name on Zenodo, SocArXiv, and the simdadllc.com/research/ section
This policy does not cover the data practices inside individual SIM DAD products. Each product handles its own user data according to its own architecture (most are local-first and do not transmit user data at all). For product-specific data handling, see:
- Ibis: useibis.app/privacy
- Lector: uselector.app/privacy
- TASS: usetass.app/privacy
- Orator: useorator.app/privacy
2. Information the Company Website Collects
The simdadllc.com website may collect the following information:
- Analytics data. We use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-DYL27HWR71) to understand website traffic. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect anonymized usage data such as pages visited, time on site, and referral source. Analytics cookies are only set after you provide consent through the cookie banner that appears on first visit.
- Email address. If you voluntarily subscribe to a SIM DAD mailing list (for example, a product waitlist or research updates), your email address is collected and stored by Brevo (formerly Sendinblue), our email service provider.
- Server logs. The website is hosted on GitHub Pages, which retains standard request metadata (IP address, user agent, request timestamp) for the operational purposes described in GitHub’s own privacy statement.
3. Information We Collect by Email
When you contact SIM DAD LLC at hello@simdadllc.com or any per-product alias (for example, ibis@simdadllc.com), we receive the email address you sent the message from and the contents of your message. We use that information solely to respond to your inquiry and to maintain a record of customer support correspondence. We do not use customer support emails for marketing.
4. Substantiation Papers and Research Artifacts
SIM DAD LLC publishes substantiation papers, methods notes, and technical reports describing the architecture, accuracy, and security properties of its products. These artifacts are deposited on Zenodo (a CERN-operated open-science repository) and SocArXiv (an open-science preprint server) and cross-listed at simdadllc.com/research/. All artifacts are released under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0). The content of the artifacts contains only information about SIM DAD’s own products and methodologies; it does not contain customer data, user data, or third-party data.
5. Third-Party Services
SIM DAD LLC uses the following third-party services in its company-level operations:
- Gumroad — payment processing and license key management for all SIM DAD products. Gumroad operates as the Merchant of Record (MoR), meaning Gumroad collects and remits applicable sales tax and processes the customer’s payment information directly. SIM DAD LLC receives payout summaries and customer email addresses (with the customer’s consent at purchase). Gumroad’s privacy policy: gumroad.com/privacy.
- Brevo — email list management and transactional email. If you subscribe to any SIM DAD mailing list, your email is stored by Brevo. Brevo’s privacy policy: brevo.com/legal/privacypolicy.
- Google Analytics 4 — consent-based website analytics on simdadllc.com (and on per-product websites). Google’s privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy.
- GitHub Pages — static website hosting for simdadllc.com. GitHub’s privacy statement: github.com/site-policy.
- Zenodo — open-science repository for substantiation paper deposits. Zenodo is operated by CERN and provides DOIs for permanent academic citation. Zenodo’s privacy policy: about.zenodo.org/privacy-policy.
- SocArXiv (operated by the Center for Open Science / OSF) — preprint hosting for research artifacts. OSF’s privacy policy: cos.io/privacy.
6. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
The SIM DAD LLC website uses two categories of cookies:
- Strictly necessary cookies. These are required for the website to function (for example, remembering your cookie consent choice). They are set without prompting because the website cannot operate without them.
- Analytics cookies. These are set by Google Analytics 4 to collect anonymized traffic data. They are set only after you click Accept on the cookie banner that appears on first visit. You can change your choice at any time by clearing your browser’s storage for simdadllc.com and reloading the page.
The SIM DAD LLC website does not use cross-site tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or fingerprinting techniques. There are no third-party advertising trackers on simdadllc.com.
7. Data Retention and Deletion
Mailing list email addresses are retained until you unsubscribe (every email contains an unsubscribe link) or until you request removal. Customer support correspondence is retained as long as needed to provide ongoing support. Analytics data is retained per Google Analytics 4 default settings (typically 14 months for user-scoped data).
To request deletion of any personal data SIM DAD LLC holds about you, contact us at hello@simdadllc.com. We will process your request within 30 days.
8. Data Security
SIM DAD LLC implements reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the personal data we collect. Our website uses HTTPS for all connections. Mailing list data is held by Brevo under their own data security commitments. Customer support email is hosted by Google Workspace under Google’s data security commitments. We restrict internal access to personal data to those who need it to operate the company.
Most SIM DAD products are designed so that customer-generated data (transcripts, documents, analyses, generated audio) never leaves the customer’s machine. Where products do support encrypted local storage, the encryption design and threat model are documented in the product’s substantiation paper, which is publicly available on Zenodo. Per-product data security details are in each product’s own privacy policy.
9. Your Rights
If you are located in a jurisdiction with applicable data protection laws (including but not limited to the European Union, the United Kingdom, California, Virginia, Colorado, or Connecticut), you may have rights regarding the personal data we hold about you. Those rights generally include the ability to:
- Request access to the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate personal data
- Request deletion of your personal data
- Object to or restrict processing of your personal data
- Request portability of your personal data
- Withdraw consent for processing where you previously gave it
To exercise any of these rights, contact hello@simdadllc.com. We will respond within the time required by the applicable law (typically 30 days). We do not sell personal data, and we do not use personal data to train artificial intelligence models.
10. AI-Generated Content (EU AI Act Article 50)
Several SIM DAD products generate or process audio output (for example, Lector and Orator use text-to-speech). Where required by Article 50 of the EU AI Act (effective August 2, 2026), generated audio output carries machine-readable metadata identifying it as AI-generated, and an audible cue at the start of the file when audio-only labelling is required by the final EU Code of Practice. A dedicated About AI page describing the marking architecture and the user’s responsibility under Article 50(4) is published at simdadllc.com/about-ai.
11. Children’s Privacy
SIM DAD LLC products and services are not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us at hello@simdadllc.com and we will promptly delete it.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, post a notice on simdadllc.com. Your continued use of the website or any SIM DAD product after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
13. Governing Law
SIM DAD LLC is organized in the State of Illinois, United States. This Privacy Policy shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Illinois, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
